Google Maps will wake you at your train or bus halt

Google Maps has been a major part of everyone’s life. Google has put out many updates over the few months refining and making it better. The new feature released by Google is small but it is massively helpful for anyone who uses public transportation.

For those who tend to fall asleep in a bus or a train, the biggest worry is sleeping past your halt. The new Google Maps update will give you live guidance and interactive real-time notifications during your journey.

The idea here is to give you real-time updates while you are on your transit journey. These updates will appear on the Google Maps app. More importantly, it will appear on your Android lock screen.

How to use the new Google Maps feature?

Search for your transit directions using the app in the usual manner. At the bottom, you will see a button that says start. After this, you will get real time alerts about your transit journey as you walk or ride on your local buses and trains.

As you get to your halt, the app will remind you that your halt is coming up. That’s definitely useful when you’re travelling somewhere new (or sleepy). The notifications on the lock screen are also new. One nifty feature here is that they are interactive, so you can scroll right through your journey’s steps.

Google Maps

Google Maps always did a good job of giving you detailed transit directions. However, it is not anywhere as good and useful as CityMapper’s more detailed directions. The minus side of the process is that you keep track of your own progress along the route. The new update changes all of this. Now you can use Google Maps a bit more like using Maps for walking, biking and driving.

The update is likely to roll out in the coming weeks.
