Google has announced the winners of its Material Design Awards. The award seeks to felicitate apps that have best used Google’s Material Design to deliver a better experience and functionality. What makes this year more exciting is that Google has allowed the public to help out with the nominations. After hundreds of entries, Google has chosen 4 winners in 4 categories.

Brand Expressiveness Award at the Material Design Awards 2017

Blinkist is the winner in this category. It is an app that compresses over 2000 best selling non fiction books into 15-minute reads or listens. It received the award because of its engaging use of iconography, motion, and typography. Google had the following to say when giving the award to Blinklist. “The type layout establishes clear hierarchy while maintaining a reader-friendly presentation through the comfortable use of white space.”

Interaction Design Award at the Material Design Awards 2017

Eventbrite Organizer is the winner in this section. It is an app that lets you oversee the event management process from start to finish. The app lets you create tasks directly in the app, track and control ticket sales, and quickly accept payment for tickets and merchandise. Within the app, all of your information is quickly accessible and looks beautiful.

Platform Adaptiveness Award at the Material Design Awards 2017

Due to its flexibility, NPR One was decided as the winner. The app allows users to consistently perform tasks in a way that feels natural to each device. The device can be a smart watch or a smartphone. NPR One got high marks for the organization of its stories, as well as enabling targeted searching and casual discovery of stories.

Innovation Award at the Material Design Awards 2017

Momondo is the winner in this category. It basically compares and books hotels as well as flights. What sets it apart is the manner in which it presents the information. It has beautiful backgrounds, graphs, and loading screens. These make it different from the usual apps present on the Play Store.
